3D Design Engineer
The short version
You’ll be the person who turns new ideas into physical parts—fast. In this role, you focus on 3D design, 3D printing, documentation and composite structures, creating lightweight components that are used directly on our airship platform.
This is a hands-on 3D specialist position for someone who enjoys rapid design–print–test cycles, understands how materials behave in the real world, and wants to see their work flying.
About Kelluu
We are turning the real world into a digital one, with accuracy down to the smallest detail. Imagine a near future where everything you see can be explored through data delivered by Kelluu, and where AI works continuously across that data to find what you need to know. Every building in every city, every tree in every forest, every power line in every electrical grid. Everything turned into answers.
Our technology is flight-proven and operational. We operate in both defence and civilian markets: the same technology that supports security also monitors critical infrastructure and the environment.
We’re a Finnish deep-tech company, headquartered in Joensuu with offices in Helsinki and Tampere. The team is growing fast, the goals are ambitious, and we’re hiring people who want to build something that matters.
Why this role exists
Our airship platform is evolving rapidly from prototypes towards scalable production, with increasing demand for consistent, lightweight, and manufacturable components.
This role exists to take ownership of how our parts are designed, built, and iterated—from fast prototyping to repeatable production. It’s about ensuring that what we design can be produced reliably, integrated seamlessly, and scaled without losing speed or quality.
What you’ll own
Designing 3D‑printed parts such as brackets, mounts, and payload camera interfaces used directly on the airship
Owning the full additive manufacturing workflow: design for printability, material selection, and running the prints (primarily plastics)
Delivering fast design–print–test iterations as new needs emerge during airship development
Creating and updating 3D designs for other mechanical parts, including structural and support components
Maintaining and developing mechanical documentation, including CAD models, drawings, images, and work instructions
Maintaining the airship’s full 3D master model as part of controlled technical documentation
Designing composite parts and structures, with an understanding of carbon fibre behaviour and lightweight construction
Designing moulds for in-house manufactured carbon fibre components
Supporting hands-on production of laminated composite parts through practical, production-ready design
Your team
You’ll work closely with mechanical and electrical engineers, documentation and safety specialists, and people building and assembling the hardware. Design decisions are discussed where the parts are made and used—not just in CAD reviews.
What success looks like
By 3 months, you will have:
Taken ownership of existing 3D-printed designs and documentation
Designed and printed new parts already in operational use
Become comfortable with our materials, printers, and development rhythm
By 6 months:
Independently handling new design needs from concept to printed part
Actively contributing to composite part and mould design
Keeping 3D models and documentation clean, current, and usable
By 12 months:
Fully owning additive manufacturing and composite-related 3D design
Improving how we design for weight, strength, and manufacturability
Being the go-to specialist for fast, practical 3D solutions
What we’re looking for
You’ll thrive here if you have:
Strong 3D CAD skills (Inventor or similar)
Hands-on experience with 3D printing and designing parts specifically for additive manufacturing
Experience with carbon fibre or other composite materials
Experience from creating and maintaining documentation
Comfort working close to hardware, printing, assembly, and testing
Even better if you also bring:
Experience designing moulds for composite parts
Background in aviation, robotics, or other weight‑critical systems
What you get
The opportunity:
Hands-on involvement in 3D design and printing
Ownership of our documentation
Possibility to work with our composite production
The practicalities:
Salary range: €3,500–4,300/month, depending on experience
Healthcare, Lunch benefit, Culture, sports, and wellbeing benefit (Epassi), Phone
The tools you need to do your best work
Flexible work culture — results matter more than desks
Other details
Location: Joensuu
Start date: As soon as possible
Reports to: Head of Engineering
Due to the dual-use nature of our technology, appointment to this position is subject to security clearance and compliance with export control regulations.
The kind of place this is
Kelluu is a dual-use deep-tech company at the intersection of autonomy, AI, and aerial intelligence. We build technology that serves both national security and society, and we take that responsibility seriously.
We’re scaling fast, which means you’ll have real influence on how things are built. The flipside: things move quickly, priorities shift, and everyone wears a few hats. If you want a finished playbook and a clear lane, this probably isn’t the right fit. If you want to write the playbook yourself, it might be exactly right.
We use AI tools extensively, not as a gimmick, but because it lets a growing team move faster than anyone expects. We expect everyone to be curious about how to work smarter.
Due to the nature of our business in the defence and dual-use sectors, the selected candidate must successfully pass a standard security clearance conducted by the Finnish Security and Intelligence Service (Supo).
